Developer Andy Nguyen says his PlayStation 5 Linux work is 'all down the sink' after LLM-assisted newcomers found and reported the final PS5 Pro Hypervisor bug to Sony.
Andy Nguyen, the developer behind the PS5 Linux project that was released earlier in 2026, has confirmed that he is stepping away from the PS5 modding scene. His exit comes ahead of the release of Linux support for the PlayStation 5 Pro, a version of the platform that had been under active development.
In an emotionally charged message posted on X, Nguyen declared that his work is "all down the sink." He laid the blame on sweeping changes within the PS5 modding community, changes he says were heralded by LLM coding assistants and have fundamentally altered the character of the console-hacking community he once knew.
Nguyen pulled no punches about the community he is leaving behind, describing the scene as "just a bunch of noobs using LLMs and writing hacks they don't even understand." In his telling, assistants powered by large language models have enabled newcomers to write hacks without the deep reverse-engineering expertise that previously defined the craft.
The decisive blow, in Nguyen's account, came when "slop kiddies" — newcomers armed with LLM tools — discovered the last remaining Hypervisor bug in the PlayStation 5 Pro and handed it to Sony. With the final Hypervisor vulnerability reported to the platform holder, the developer chose to walk away from the Pro-oriented Linux effort rather than see it through to release.
The withdrawal brings an abrupt halt to an effort whose base PS5 release landed only earlier in 2026. With Nguyen gone, the PlayStation 5 Pro Linux support he was building will not ship under his name, closing the chapter on a project whose creator says generative coding tools have hollowed out the community that sustained it.
