As AI agents move from experiments into production, SiliconANGLE reports that enterprises must now prove what agents were authorized to do — not just log what they did.
AI agents are crossing a threshold that enterprise governance must now clear. As agentic systems move out of experimental tools and into production systems, the questions being asked of governance are hardening, according to a SiliconANGLE analysis published September 19, 2026. Knowing what an agent did, it argues, is no longer sufficient: organizations increasingly need to prove what the agent was authorized to do, and why it was allowed to take a specific action.
The distinction the report draws is between observability and control. Observability, in its conventional sense, tells an organization what an agent did after the fact. Provable control raises the evidentiary bar: it demands that an organization be able to demonstrate, not merely reconstruct, the authority behind an agent's conduct — that a given action sat within the agent's authorization, and that the reason it was permitted can be shown on demand.
The timing matters. The report frames this shift as a direct consequence of agents leaving experimentation behind for production, where their actions carry real operational weight. Once an agent acts rather than merely suggests, governance must be able to answer for those actions on demand. A record of what happened, on its own, does not establish that the agent was entitled to do it — which is precisely the gap the report identifies as governance's new burden.
For enterprises, the implication is structural. Governance built around observability presumes humans remain the decisive actors, with tooling that merely records outcomes. Governance built around provable control presumes autonomous software initiates actions and must arrive with its justification attached. As the SiliconANGLE piece signals, the shift from the first presumption to the second is already underway for organizations putting agents into production — and governance frameworks are being pushed to keep pace.
