Bell's 300MW Saskatchewan facility, due online next year, now has backing to quadruple to 1.2GW under a $50 billion buildout that would create Canada's largest data center.
Bell has secured support for a $50 billion buildout that will establish Canada's largest data center in Saskatchewan, with planned capacity of 1.2GW. The move marks a major escalation for the Canadian telecom operator, whose facility at the site was previously sized at 300MW and is scheduled to go live next year. Under the expanded plan, the company intends to grow the installation fourfold.
The project now effectively proceeds in two stages. The initial 300MW build remains on track to come online in the coming year, giving Bell an operating footprint at the site ahead of any larger expansion. The newly secured backing then underwrites the path to 1.2GW — a quadrupling of capacity that, if delivered, would make the Saskatchewan campus the biggest data center in Canada.
Scale of this kind reflects where data center economics have moved. Capacity measured in gigawatts rather than megawatts has become the benchmark for AI-oriented builds, as power availability increasingly determines where large training and inference clusters can physically sit. A 1.2GW envelope would give Bell room to host workloads at a scale no other Canadian site currently matches, and the $50 billion figure attached to the buildout underscores the capital intensity now required to compete at that level.
For AI compute buyers and investors, the plan adds a substantial new capacity option to the Canadian market, though delivery now hinges on execution: the first 300MW must go live next year as scheduled before the fourfold expansion can follow. With backing secured, Bell has placed Saskatchewan at the center of what is set to become the country's largest data center project.
