Akuity's new Agentic Control Plane lets AI agents read pipeline data and act under existing permissions, while an MCP Server connects agents over the Model Context Protocol.
Akuity Inc., a software delivery platform company, introduced a new layer on Sept. 14, 2026 designed to bring artificial intelligence agents into production under formal governance. The product, Agentic Control Plane, lets AI agents read the platform's pipeline data and act on it, but only within the permissions the platform already enforces. Instead of granting agents free rein, Akuity is extending an access model built for human operators to non-human ones.
The announcement arrived alongside a second release, the Akuity MCP Server, which connects agents to the platform over the Model Context Protocol, an interface standard for wiring AI agents to external tools and data. The server gives agents a defined channel into Akuity's environment, while the control plane determines what they may see and do once inside. The two products together amount to a governed on-ramp for agentic automation across the delivery pipeline.
The launch addresses a tension becoming unavoidable in enterprise engineering. With teams writing more code and agents increasingly capable of handling delivery tasks themselves, platform owners face a question: how to let agents act without dismantling the guardrails that govern human access. Akuity's answer is to reuse the enforcement machinery already in place, scoping each agent's capabilities by the same rules applied to any other user of the platform. If the framing holds, governance rather than raw capability is the bottleneck between experimental agents and production use.
For engineering leaders weighing agentic automation, the distinguishing feature is enforcement rather than connectivity: agent actions pass through the same permission layer the platform applies today. That positioning makes the release a test of whether governed access, rather than broad autonomy, becomes the default template for agents entering production software delivery.
