Meta has teamed up with Panmnesia, a small Korean startup, to propose a data center architecture built on CXL that would connect as many as 960 accelerators — approaching 1,000 AI GPUs — within a single coherent computing domain. Outlined by Facebook's parent company and its Korean partner, the design spans multiple racks rather than stopping at a single rack's edge.
The ambition behind the project is what the report describes as a "one-chip-like datacenter": an installation where a cluster of racks behaves as if it were a single chip. Coherence is the key property. Within the proposed domain, the up-to-960 accelerators would operate as one coherent computing domain, interoperating as tightly coupled elements rather than as isolated nodes stitched together by conventional networking.
CXL — Compute Express Link — is the enabling interconnect, a technology intended to give processors, accelerators and memory devices coherent, shared access to memory. It is that property the Meta and Panmnesia proposal leans on to stretch one unified domain across multiple racks, encompassing all 960 accelerators.
The headline figure is scale: a ceiling of 960 accelerators per domain puts the architecture close to the almost-1,000-GPU-per-domain mark highlighted in the report. The multi-rack reach is the distinguishing element of the design, since a single coherent domain is extended rack to rack across the datacenter floor rather than remaining bounded by any one rack.
